Weston Charity Award Winners Community Link Driven to Success

Community Link Stafford & District continues to lead the way in the County Town and beyond after receiving a prestigious accolade from the Garfield Weston Foundation in recognition of its achievements and positive impact upon our community.

The Stafford charity has offered a reliable, friendly and professional door-to-door Dial-a-Ride community transport service to those in Stafford and the surrounding districts for the last 16 years. Day-to-day its beneficiaries are those who are vulnerable, elderly, individuals with reduced mobility, people living in poverty, those who are unwell or disabled, children and young people with Special Educational Needs and people who are isolated because of a lack of adequate and safe public passenger services.

The recent accolade is a worthy acknowledgement of the essential support services this charity provides and was presented by the Foundation at the Weston Charity Awards held earlier this year at Thinktank Birmingham Science Museum. This special event celebrates and supports great frontline charities working in the fields of community, welfare and youth and is organised by the Garfield Weston Foundation with Pilotlight. Charities with incomes of under £5 million in the North of England, the Midlands and Wales can apply.

From small community organisations to large national institutions, the Garfield Weston Foundation supports a broad range of charities and activities that make a positive impact in the communities in which they work. It responds to small charities’ need for insight and strategic skill sharing from the business sector through its collaboration with Pilotlight.

Philippa Charles, director of the Garfield Weston Foundation said:
“The Weston Charity Awards recipients have been selected due to the strength of their ambitions and their openness to external perspectives. As we enter the sixth year of the Awards, our Trustees are excited by the opportunity this presents to strengthen the sector.”

Community Link Stafford & District fought fierce competition from a total of 172 small charities to be selected one as one of 20 worthy winners. As Weston Charity Awards winners 2019 the charity will receive a grant and benefit from a year of tailored strategic planning support from Pilotlight’s team of senior business leaders.

Graham Wright, Chief Executive at Community Link Stafford said:
“Community Link is delighted and grateful to have been chosen as an award winner. External recognition for our work in the community can be a great catalyst to widen access to our service across the local area.”
